Austin Harms

Austin is the Founder and Managing Partner of Altum Legal. He specializes in the representation of start-ups and emerging growth companies as their outside general counsel throughout the various stages of their life cycle including corporate formation, structuring and governance matters, commercial transactions, venture capital financing transactions, and mergers and acquisitions. He also represents venture capital investors in pre-seed through pre-IPO financing rounds.

Prior to Altum, Austin was a Counsel at Perkins Coie LLP, one of the top corporate law firms in the world, where he spent seven years in their emerging companies and venture capital practice serving as outside general counsel to some of the highest profile technology companies. Austin is also an active investor in the startup space.

In 2025, Austin was named as a Rising Star by Super Lawyer Magazine.

Outside of work, Austin can be found spending time with his wife and children in the outdoors, particularly hiking, skiing, camping, cycling, rock climbing, and playing soccer. He grew up in southern California and has been an FC Barcelona through the good times and the bad.

Jake Zanutto

Jake specializes in representing emerging growth companies on a wide range of corporate matters including day-to-day corporate governance, equity and employment issues, venture financings, and mergers and acquisitions. He has extensive experience representing venture capital investors in transactions of all sizes, and he is particularly passionate about working with clients innovating in the artificial intelligence, blockchain, and entertainment industries.

Prior to Altum, Jake was an Associate in Perkins Coie LLP’s San Francisco office where he represented technology entrepreneurs with an emphasis on fintech and web3 companies.

In his spare time, Jake enjoys being outdoors as he camps, hikes, and road trips throughout California. His hobbies include playing bass, practicing archery in Golden Gate Park, and seeing live music around San Francisco. Jake is an avid fan of the 49ers and loves to attend games with friends and family.

Roger Cain

Roger advises emerging and high‑growth companies and their investors across a broad spectrum of corporate and transactional matters — including venture financings, corporate governance, SEC compliance and reporting, public offerings, and mergers & acquisitions. Before joining Altum, Roger was an Associate in Cooley LLP's Palo Alto office.

Roger earned his J.D. from Stanford Law School and holds a B.A. from Stanford University. During law school, Roger interned in the Consumer Protection Section of the California Department of Justice, participated in the Criminal Defense Clinic, and volunteered for the Naturalization Pro Bono Project. He was also a member of the Stanford Technology Law Review.

Prior to law school, he worked as a consultant and later served as a graduate fellow at an early‑stage venture fund — experience that gives him a deep appreciation for the realities and ambitions of founders, start‑ups, and venture investors.

Outside of work, Roger enjoys playing soccer and participating in CrossFit. He brings an international perspective to his work, having lived in both Italy and Germany. He is fluent in Italian and conversational in German.

Julie Gleason

Julie Gleason is a seasoned paralegal with over 25 years of experience supporting attorneys across a broad range of legal matters. Throughout her career, she has worked with law firms of all sizes, including Perkins Coie LLP, Silicon Legal Strategy, PC, and Atrium LLP. Her depth of knowledge in and experience in the emerging companies and venture capital space makes her an invaluable resource to both attorneys and clients alike.

Julie’s strengths lie in her meticulous attention to detail, ability to manage complex work streams, and talent for synthesizing large volumes of information into clear, actionable work product. She has supported attorneys in fast-paced environments and has a proven track record of helping teams move transactions forward smoothly and effectively. Her professionalism, reliability, and client-centered approach make her a trusted member of the legal team.
